Dee Ann Mouser, DVM

School:  Texas A&M University
Special Interests: Internal feline medicine
Pets:  4 cats and 2 dogs
BIO:

Dr. Dee Ann Mouser first came to CTCH as a relief vet in June of 2007.  It did not take long before everyone realized that Dr. Mouser and CTCH were a perfect match.  She became permanent in January of 2008.

Dr. Mouser provides in-depth care in all aspects of feline medicine and truly enjoys the cases involving internal issues.

Dr. Mouser was born and raised in Houston, Texas.  Before going to college she worked at a cat only boarding and grooming facility called "The Cats Pajamas", so specializing in felines is nothing new to her.  She started her undergraduate work at Texas A&M University where she earned a B.S. degree in psychology.  Dr. Mouser stayed on at Texas A&M to attend their college of Veterinary Medicine.  She graduated in 2002 in the top five of her class.  She has been practicing in the Austin and Round Rock area ever since.

Dr. Mouser clearly loves her work.  She shows up everyday with a positive outlook and an excellent sense of humor.  The staff not only respects her, they enjoy working with her.

She has many hobbies which include cooking and gardening.  At the end of the day she goes home with her husband Dr. David Mouser, who is also a veterinarian, to their four beautiful cats Marley, Andy, Bart and Wallace and their two dogs Micah and Tres, who only has 3 legs.

Front Office

Cynthia Ivy
Hospital Manager

Cynthia came to CTCH in July of 2007 as their new receptionist and assisting the doctors in the exam rooms.  In March of 2008 Cynthia took on the position of Hospital Manager when Karen Tweedy retired.  Filling Karen's shoes is no easy task but Cynthia is up to the challenge.

Prior to CTCH Cynthia spent 5 years as a stay at home mom with her daughter Katelynn.  Before that, she was a clientele specialist for a large retail corporation.  Coming to work at the cat hospital was like coming home for Cynthia.  She grew up at her father's animal hospital and her first job when she was eleven was helping clean kennels and feed animals.  She has also fostered orphaned kittens and puppies for as long as she can remember.

Cynthia lives in Round Rock with J.R. and her beautiful daughter Katelynn, who has inherited her mother's and her grandfather's love for animals.  They share their home with 2 dogs, Roadie and Lily, 3 very spoiled cats, Claudia, Max and Jax and 2 dwarf hamsters, Jake and Drake.

Cheryl Miller
Receptionist

Before coming to CTCH in May of 2008 Cheryl was already a familiar face to many of our clients because for years she managed the 7 Eleven just up the street. Cheryl's talent for dealing with the public, her caring and compassionate nature combined with her love for the cats has made her a favorite face for clients to see when they walk in the door.

Cheryl has 20 cats, many of which were abandoned and feral cats that she rescued. Before becoming a staff member Cheryl and her husband, Bill had been devoted clients for years.

Dawn Shepherd
Bookkeeper

Dawn joined CTCH in September of 2007.  She has worked as a full-charge bookkeeper for various organizations since 1993.  Bookkeeper might be her job title but it definitely does not describe all that she does at the cat hospital.  Dawn's name can be heard ringing through the halls when anything needs to be fixed or figured out.  She is most definitely not afraid of getting her hands dirty.  It is not unusual for Dawn to get to CTCH and have to change scrubs because she is filthy from climbing in a ditch to rescue a scruffy looking little cat on her way to work.

Dawn moved to Texas from Virginia in 1991.  She has volunteered for a local feral cat rescue group for the past five years and has had animals all her life.  Dawn has 14 cats, 1 Great Dane, Bella, a Military Macaw, Lalye and Greg, the man who supports her passion for all animals.  Most of Dawn's friends consider her a little fanatical about cats but at CTCH she fits in perfectly.

Veterinary Technicians

Jeanne Shaffer
Head Veterinary Technician

Prior to coming to work at CTCH Jeanne had volunteered for rescue groups since she was a teenager.  Jeanne began working for CTCH in March of 2006.  In June of 2008 she was promoted to Head Veterinary Technician.  In her time here she has undergone training and course work to become CVA certified and well versed in the special care that cats require.

Jeanne has 27 cats, many of which are special needs cases.  It is said around the hospital that her cats must have a sign in the window telling other cats to come on in to the wonderful, loving home that Jeanne and her husband Kirk have provided.

"My life has and will always be dedicated to saving and providing care for cats and kittens."

Rebecca Lyons
Veterinary Technician

Rebecca started out with CTCH in 2006 as a kennel technician.  Early on it was easy to see that she was very passionate about the cats that she cared for.  After being promoted to Veterinary Technician in January of 2008, Rebecca became  CVA certified.

Although cats are Rebecca's favorite, growing up she had many different animals from rats to horses to lizards.  Now, she resides in Austin with her husband Preston and their 15 year old cat Slash.  Slash demands to be an only cat so she is unable to bring anyone else home.  But there is no question that Gypsy, who lives here at CTCH, belongs to Rebecca, heart and soul.

Nathan Cox
Veterinary Technician

Nathan began his career in animal care in 2001 as a Kennel Technician for the Humane Society SPCA of Austin and quickly moved into a primary role in the shelter clinic as a Veterinary Technician assisting with daily medical care and spay/neuter operations for hundreds of Austin's homeless cats and dogs.  Nathan continued his career in nonprofit animal care over the next five years working for both the SPCA as well as working as a lead Veterinary Technician with Emancipet's mobile spay neuter program.  Prior to working in animal care and welfare - Nathan was Technician of another sort - and has over 10 years of experience as an HVAC Technician.

Nathan lives with his wife of eight years - Samantha in Lago Vista and has a shelter of rescued animals to keep him busy when not at CTCH. Among his four legged companions....Five cats (10 year old Kitty Girl, 6 year old Blue Streaky, 5 year old Dirty Frank, 2 year old Gato Negro and 2 year old Alice).   Four dogs (13 year old Smokey Lonesome- Beagle PIt, 12 year old Raleigh-Dalmation, 5 year old Bud-Pit Bull and 5 month old Rida-Maltese).   Nathan also has 2 Quaker Parrots (Birdie and That Little Birdie), 1 Python (Squeezy), 2 Salt Water and one Fresh Water Fish Tank - and yes...if you're wondering ...even the fish have names!   Nathan is looking forward to a long career at CTCH and so are we.

Support Staff

Candice Rios

Kennel Technician / Training Veterinary Technician

Candice started working for CTCH in May of 2010.  She came to the cat hospital with a wonderful reference from the Austin Humane Society where she was an adoption counselor.  Candice also worked for Petsmart as an animal care specialist.

Candice lived in Tarrant County before moving to Austin when she was 5 years old.  Growing up she always lived in the country and had lots of animals.  She now lives with Pierre and their 23 year old iguana named Stella.  They have recently added Eli, a rescue cat, to their family.

Once again, another great match for our hospital.  We are glad to have her on board!
